Mason's "Beauty" released on Rebel Region (world music), Matt on guitar

I compose and perform experimental music. Create music for independent films and industrials, and authored many cd's of original music. A representative cd, Electric Guitar, features improvisations of dense, tortured sounds framed by high-speed guitar flurries and an occasional semblence of melody and rock guitar rhythm. I also record noise, environment and street sounds. Studied formal composition at universities, but a gut-feeling, rock guitar style is often apparent. Some influences: John Coltrane, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Penderecki, and Xenakis. With drummer/percussionist Greg Diamond, perform and record in a free improvisation group named Sound Janitor. We've recorded a few cd's at his studio and have performed live in New York City several times, often with guest artists. Enjoy the music excerpts, photos, and writings at this site.
There are many excerpts from my work at this site, but the music achieves best impact in the original cd recorded full-length versions. If you have further interest based on these excerpts, please contact me for cd’s. Generally, I send them for the cost of materials and mailing – less than $5. These cd's are not factory manufactured - I make them individually. The music was edited and mastered using professional level Digidesign software. The sound is extremely good, but may not have quite the punch of a top artist's large budget cd recording. You won't find music that sounds quite like this anywhere. Leave me a message at 917-650-7984 and you'll have this music very soon! You can also email me @yahoo.com. That's matt_wuolle at the aformentioned address (you'll have to manually put the address together, this is a spam control measure).
The following is a rough guide to the music's relationship to genres, other artists, groups, bands, and composers.Genres: scary and psychological thriller movies, free jazz, progressive rock, pyschedelic rock, experimental music of any kind, contemporary classical music, and occasional elements of new age, minimalism, and computer music.
Much of the guitar music is based on my free improvisations which may include rock and free jazz elements and sometimes incorporate voices and other sounds. You may like it if you're into any of the following: late works of John Coltrane; late 1960's - 1970's Miles Davis; Jimi Hendrix's longer, live guitar solos; John Mclaughlin's hyper-fast distorted solos from the early 1970's; Cecil Taylor; King Crimson's live improvisations; The Art Ensemble of Chicago's live improvisations; and various heavy metal and jam bands' longer guitar solos.
The remainder of my composed music spans a lot of territory. If you like Rova and other contemporary saxophone quartet groups, my saxophone music may be of interest. Several of my compositions, such as "Years Of Fear" and "Crazy Dave" are thematic collages of strange soundtrack music - various sections could be appropriate for movies such as The Matrix and Aliens. Some of the music is comprised of heavy metallic and crashing sounds from trash cans and slamming metal doors, so perhaps some Stomp fans would be appreciative. The remaining music is for acoustic instruments and sometimes voice, and probably shows the influence of composers such as Bartok, Stravinsky, Hindemith, Carter, et al.
